Mercy
2 Corinthians 4:1. Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not. Take your attention off yourself, but have concern and compassion for others. Jesus will be part of furthering someone’s selfish interests. He calls for people to serve the Lord and others, not themselves. The purpose of our lives is to serve others.
Psalm 89:2. For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens. The purpose of every ministry is mercy. Without mercy there will be no ministry any ministry not building up mercy and not showing mercy is operating outside God’s will for ministry. Whatsoever may be your ministry, it is void of practice of mercy, your stomach is your God, and you are a shepherd that eats the sheep.
Jesus was not anointed for Himself, but He was anointed for the good of others.Acts 10:38. How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
In your ministry, do you have concern for people? Do you have plans for the needy and to help them? Do you charge people before you pray for them or conduct deliverance for them? Have you ever visited the needy? Have you ever caused the death of someone through your action and judgment?
God does not measure the type of car, coat, shoe, house or cathedral you have rendered to humanity. (Mathew 25:31-46). Our God is merciful; every minister, Pastor, Prophet, Apostle, Evangelist, Teacher, Judge, Doctor, President or Leader should also be merciful.Luke 6:36. “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. No matter what our occupation might be, we are all called to build up mercy. Psalm 89:2”. “For I have said, mercy shall be built up forever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens”. We are salt and light of the world.
Our ministry should always be within the framework of “edification, exhortation, comfort and help”. All our works and services should be motivated by the true love of God and never the ministry of judgement. Many people see themselves better than others. The effect of this is that instead of them to help and encourage the needy, they judge and put the needy down.
A merciful heart is always free and healthy.
Every other message will divide us, but mercy will keep us together. Every other discussion leads to past misunderstanding, but the message of mercy talks of forgiveness, love, peace and brotherly living. It talks of giving food to the enemy when they are hungry. Should we fail to show mercy, then we are multiplying wickedness.
As you show someone mercy today, you might have stopped war and God will show you mercy too. If you are on top and fail to show someone mercy, then you have not been to the top. If you should have everything and show no mercy to the hungry, then your wealth has no weight. If nobody said “Thank God for your life” in a day, then that day is unfulfilled.
- Basics on Mercy
Hence to show mercy to our neighbour means:
a. Forgiveness
b. Love
c. Compassion
d. Understanding
e. Responsibility
So outside all these above, there is no mercy. Let us learn to help the needy first before blaming them or judging them. What the Good Samaritan did in Luke 10:25-37 was a true demonstration of the ministry of mercy.
That is God’s type of showing of mercy. He did not blame or judge the man for posing through the way of thieves, but he first took the responsibility to rescue the man.
Stop blaming your brother, show him mercy first, then after full recovery, you can then correct him. Let us stop every judgement and let us forgive each other. Let us give mercy a chance.
Do you know that the world is heading to great destruction with the events going on around the globe if the world leaders do not apply mercy? The sustenance and the continuous existence of our great world, now lie in the mercy of the world leaders. And without mercy, hell is the next state of the world.Mercy should be the key teaching of every religion, meeting, seminars, conference, families, homes and church leaders if we would want to survive the next ten years.
Note: a. Love void of mercy will crack
b. No mercy, no forgiveness
c. Mercy is the father of mercy
d. Judgement shall not rejoice against mercy
e. Mercy is the key to divine healing
f. Mercy settles every war
g. When mercy comes, judgement gives way
h. Mercy will cause you to return to your land (Jeremiah 42:12).
